Two buses collided in Syria on Saturday, killing at least 35 people and injuring 30 more. Japan issued a tornado advisory for the Tokyo area on Saturday evening. More than 250,000 people have now fled wildfires in France and Spain. Firefighters in southwestern France are struggling to contain a blaze that strong winds are pushing toward Bordeaux, and one official said they are far from having it under control, with seven towns west of the city told overnight to evacuate. French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu called the fires unprecedented and said the Gironde blaze grew strong enough on Friday to start generating its own winds, while an A400M military cargo aircraft was brought in to drop retardant alongside 18 other aircraft. France also shortened the final stage of the Tour de France to free up officers for the response, and Spain recorded its first death from the current fires.

German prisons are running close to capacity, with Berlin’s system under particular strain. Olaf Heischel, honorary chairman of the Berlin Prison Advisory Board and a retired lawyer, said most facilities are sitting at roughly 90 to 95 percent occupancy, which has been manageable so far. An RSF attack in Sudan killed 15 civilians south of El Obeid. Russian strikes killed two women in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region. Forces hit the city of Nikopol along with the Marhanets, Chervonohryhorivka, Pokrovske and Myrove hromadas in the Nikopol district, damaging infrastructure, a kindergarten, a café, shops, at least ten apartment blocks, plus houses and cars. Women aged 35 and 74 were killed in the attacks. Two more women, aged 51 and 66, were injured and will be treated as outpatients.
