(UAE Gov) The United Arab Emirates welcomed the Council of the International Maritime Organization’s strong condemnation of Iran’s threats and attacks against ships, as well as the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
“Under this resolution, the IMO Council calls on Iran to immediately refrain from any actions or threats aimed at closing the Strait of Hormuz, obstructing or interfering with international navigation through it in any way, or targeting commercial vessels in and around the Strait. The Council also reaffirms the need to respect the exercise of the rights and freedom of navigation by commercial vessels. The Council stressed the paramount importance of maintaining the safety and well-being of seafarers, further recalling Security Council resolution 2817 (2026), which affirmed that any attempt to impede legitimate passage or freedom of navigation through international waterways such as the Strait of Hormuz is a serious threat to international peace and security.”
